More Family Reunion Photos
If you do not find yourself in one or more of these photographs I apologize. I thought that I had included all who participated. However, in reviewing these and others, I am not so sure. I hope that you will enjoy these photos just the same. If you have a photo or two or more that you would like to add to the collection here, please E-mail a JPEG of your photos to me so that I can include them here in the blog.

Family Reunion Update
Over forty family members gathered at Trapper's Family Restaurant Friday evening marking the kickoff for the Elmquist and extended family reunion. For some this was a first time meeting, for others the event was a renewing of family relationships. Many warm hugs and greetings were exchanged before the group sat down for an evening of good eats and recollections of fond memories. Extended members were introduced and made part of the family at large.
Saturday began with a slow start, but once gathered, the family made the short trip to the Neil Carlson farm (the former Carl August Elmquist farm). The Carlson's greeted the family as part of their own family complete with refreshments an invitation to tour their home as well as the farm itself (which included several original buildings).
The group next moved on to the David Bratt home and farm (the former Carl Hult farm and later the John William Elmquist farm) where Uncle Earl Elmquist pointed out the location of the original farmhouse long since destroyed by fire, moved, or razed to make room for a more modern home.
Photos of all the above and more will follow soon, but the number of photo to work with is larger than expected so some editing is needed before posting.
Only one more day remains for the first of the kind family reunion, but thus far it can be said without reservation that a good time is being shared by all and particularly Uncle Earl Elmquist!

Reunion Arrivals
Uncle Earl Elmquist and Cousin Carolyn Elmquist - Johnson arrived today at the Limburge air terminal, the primary air terminal in Minneapolis, marking the beginning of the Elmquist family reunion. We shared lunch and family stories while at the International House of Pancakes, the I-Hop just outside the terminal and across the "street" form the Mega Mall of America. Upon our return trip to Rice Lake WI we also stopped to checked out our reservations at Trapper's, our room reservations at America's Best Value Inn (check with Rocky for details), our breakfast accommodations at the Wagon Wheel restaurant and pizzeria Me and two of the grand kidsat Zion church.
where the family members will gather Saturday and Sunday morning, and finally Zion Lutheran Evangelical Church where we will gather for the Saturday afternoon picnic. The excitement is building and is evident in attitudes of those who are arriving for the event. There is still time for you to make the journey to Chisago City and to become part of the event. I hope that you will do so, or at least check this family blog for pictures and comments that will be posted as regularly as possible. Join us Friday evening for the kickoff dinner at Trapper's; I am sure that you will be glad that you did!

June Reunion Update
Well, here it is June 2nd already and the once in a life time family reunion event is just around the corner! Before I go on here, Thank You to all who have contributed to the cause, volunteered to bring side dishes for Saturday's picnic main event, or indicated that you would help in other ways. I greatly appreciate your help and assistance!
Also, I am very pleased to let everyone know that our Uncle Earl Elmquist will be with us for the reunion! Uncle Earl, now 92+ years, is the family patriarch and we are honored to have Uncle Earl with us for this occasion. In fact some are coming to the reunion specifically because Uncle Earl will be there! In addition, Cousin Marian Kent, Earl Leaf, and members the Peterson and Saline families, branches of our extended family group, will also be with us. Did I say that this reunion is a once in a life time event! I think that it is worth repeating!
I will not repeat here the day to day details of the reunion event! Everyone can reread the previous reunion updates for this information. However, just as a reminder the Friday night kick off dinner and the Sunday afternoon wrap up lunch are both Dutch Treat at Trapper's Family Restaurant.
Surprisingly not all of the response cards sent out have been returned, but it looks like the turnout will be between 30 and 50 persons if everyone does indeed come out for the event. That is pretty darn good! So, if you are one of the few who has not returned your response card and are on the proverbial fence trying to make a decision, just do it! No response card or E-mail necessary! Come on out and join the family! You won't regret your decision! We look forward to seeing you in Chisago City for any or all the event days!

Missing Cousin Update
The missing are found! Cousin Lois (Aunt Irene's eldest daughter), and Cousins Gary Elmquist and Brenda Elmquist the children of Uncle Ward Elmquist and Aunt Bernadene were located. All were invited to the family reunion. Of the three cousins found, Lois confirmed that she will be attending the full three days of the reunion. So, now the family database is nearly complete, invitations are sent to all living cousins and relatives and 30 confirmations received. Not a bad turnout though the potential remains for even more family members to attend this event.

May Reunion Update
The Elmquist family and extended family member reunion is on schedule and looking good! However, we need your help so that we can better plan for our food needs for the Saturday afternoon “picnic”. I have enclosed with the May update letter (mailed today, May, 10th) a return addressed, postage paid envelope and response card. Please indicate your plan to be part of the reunion and the Saturday picnic in particular on the response card, tell me how many will be in your family group, and drop it into the mail early enough so that I will receive it not later than June 1st! Your help here is greatly appreciated!
Some have asked if there is a fee charged to attend the reunion. No, there is no official fee charged to attend the reunion. I have deliberately worked to keep the cost of the reunion down so that I could cover costs myself as I do not want an attendance fee to be a factor in your decision to come to the reunion. However, if you are willing to make a donation for the “cause” your help well be appreciated. Any contribution you make will be used to defray expenses of food purchases for the Saturday picnic, the church custodial service fee, and the church social hall rental fee; any balance remaining after all bills are paid will be gifted to Zion Lutheran Church in our family name.
Rocky, the proprietor of Americas Best Value Inn located on HWY 8 between Chisago City and Lindstrom is providing lodging for our family members at special lower rates ($56.00 double, $46.00 single, plus tax, with a continental breakfast included). Tell Rocky that you are part of the Elmquist family reunion to get these special room rates when making your reservation. Call Rocky at 651-257-8088.
In review then, the festivities begin with a ‘Dutch Treat’ dinner, Friday evening, June 11, at Trapper’s Family Restaurant in the heart of Chisago City, located at 10356 South Avenue just west of the old creamery building and the intersection of HWY 8 and Bennet Road (Co. Rd. 77). If you are unable to attend any other part of the reunion, please join us for the kick-off dinner. We will look for you beginning at 5:00 PM and will close out the restaurant that evening so come early, come late, but come on out; we will be there!
On Saturday morning, June 12th, at 9:30 AM we will gather at the front steps of Zion Church on Old Town Road for our featured events that include tours of the John William Elmquist and Ida Amanda Hult farm and the Carl August Johansson Hult farm, and a walk-about at the nearby old South Green Lake Cemetery where the remains of many of our ancestors now rest. We will return to Zion Church for our Saturday afternoon picnic. We have reserved the church social hall for the afternoon just in case of bad weather. Join us on Saturday even if you miss the kick-off dinner, or the tours!
Work is in progress to gather baptismal and confirmation historical information of our family members from the Zion church record books. Copies from the church records books will be available on Saturday afternoon for those of you who would like to investigate your Chisago City and Zion Lutheran church heritage. The church archivist, however, will not be able to be present after Sunday services (June 13th as previously planned. And the condition of the old record books is such that the Zion Council requested that the record books be NOT available for direct personal view. We respect their wishes to preserve the condition of the old record books!
Pastor Jeff Elmquist continues his work on the exhaustive family genealogical history. We are still looking for pictures of family members---historical and current---to include in his finished publication. So, if you have not already provided pictures of your parents, of yourself, your kids, and your grand kids please consider loaning to us any pictures you may have so that we can scan them for use in the family genealogical history. And, there is still time too for you to provide us with j-peg picture scans at 300 ppi, best quality, of any pictures that you do not want to leave your possession; we clearly understand the value of historic family photographs! Anything that you can provide is greatly appreciated. Copies of the genealogical history will be available at the cost of production. A sign-up sheet will be available during our Saturday picnic for those wishing to have a personal copy of the exhaustive family history.
Sunday, June 13th opens with 9:30 AM services at Zion Lutheran Church (for those who wish to attend these services) followed with a tour of this historic church building. Zion was founded in part by our Hult and Leaf ancestors, and many of our parents were members of and were confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. After church services we will tour the grounds of the Ojiketa Girl Scout Camp on the shores of Big Green Lake. The camp grounds are just a few blocks from Zion making access to the park easy and convenient. The property, given to the Girl Scouts by our Elmquist ancestors, is now the Ojiketa Regional Park, the newest addition to the greater Chisago City public park system. The park is under development and will have many point of interest when completed including a museum to house historical items and artifact found on the property. The family reunion event will close with a lunch at Trapper’s.
Again, please invite your sons and daughters, and grand kids too to attend. And, Please DO Let Me Know if you and your family members are planning to attend using the postage paid and return addressed envelope. Knowing how many to plan for will be of great help indeed! I look forward to your positive response!
Late changes (if any) to our reunion plan and/or itinerary will be posted here on the reunion blog so check out the Elmquist Family Reunion Blog frequently.
Come for all or part of the family reunion event, but do come on out! This event is the only one of its kind for the Elmquist clan (though local family members may gather privately for other occasions at other times). This family reunion well be worth your time and your efforts!
Sincerely,
Dave

April Reunion Update
Plans for the Elmquist family and extended family member reunion are nearly complete with just a few odds and ends remaining to care for---such as food for Saturday, but please read this update carefully as there are two significant changes emphasized by "Noted Change:".
The festivities begin with a 'Dutch Treat' dinner, Friday evening, June 11, at Trapper's Family Restaurant in the heart of Chisago City, located at 10356 South Ave., just west of the old creamery building and the intersection of HWY 8 and Bennet Rd. (Co. Rd. 77). All family members who can make it are encouraged to join in for the kick off dinner. We will look for you beginning at 5:00 PM and will close out the restaurant that evening at 9:30 PM (or later) so come early, come late, but come on out; we will be there!
Saturday, June 12th, we will gather at the front steps of Zion Church located on Old Town Road at 9:30 AM for our featured event that include tours of the John William Elmquist and Ida Amanda (Hult) Elmquist farm and the Carl August Johansson Hult farm followed by a walk-about of the nearby old South Green Lake Cemetery where the remains of many of our ancestors now rest. We will continue with a picnic on Saturday afternoon on the grounds of Zion Church. Note Change: We have reserved the church social hall for the afternoon just in case of bad weather. Please note: This is a change from the original plan necessitated by the availability and user condition of park facilities.
Baptismal and confirmation historical information will be available for those who are interested in investigating your Chisago City and Zion Church heritage. The church archivist is working to make copies of the relevant pages of the church record books. These copies will be available during our Saturday afternoon picnic. Note Change: Because the condition of the older record books is so delicate direct personal view of the pages will not be possible. In addition, the church archivist will NOT be able to be present as previously planned. So, Please make your special requests for information and copies of pages known to Jeff Elmquist or myself as soon as possible so that we can work with the church archivist to fulfill your needs and requests.
We are also working to build an exhaustive family genealogical history of the family and family relationships that will include pictures of our fathers, mothers, aunts and uncles, and extended family members. If you have pictures of yourself, your kids, grand kids, and parents and grandparents, please consider loaning these photos to us so that we can scan them during the reunion weekend or soon there after, or provide us with scans in J-peg format at 300 ppi, resolution, best quality output. Anything you can do will be greatly appreciated. Copies of the genealogical history on DVD will be made available for the cost of production; a sign-up sheet will be available during Saturday afternoon for your convenience. The genealogical history on DVD should be of significant value to anyone wanting to look into their family history and family relationships.
Sunday, June 13th, opens with 9:30 AM services at Zion Church (for those who wish to attend services) followed with a tour of the historic church building and property. Zion Church was founded in part by our Hult and Leaf ancestors. As noted previously, many of out parents were members of Zion and were confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. Sunday afternoon continues with a tour of the grounds of Ojiketa Regional Park, the former Ojiketa Campfire Girl Scouts camp on the south shores of Big Green Lake. It is the property deeded to the Girl Scouts by our ancestors. Finally, our reunion event will close Sunday afternoon with a lunch again at Trapper's Family Restaurant.
We hope to see as many of you again as possible during the three day family reunion event. I know and understand that not every family member is able to attend this or any family reunion for a variety of reasons. But, for those who care able to be part of this family reunion, we look forward to meeting you again, and for some, for the very first time! This event is the only one of its kind to our knowledge, though local family members have surly gathered for other occasions at other times. We trust that this event will be worth your personal time and effort to attend!
